Why study at Hawai'i Pacific University?

Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) is the largest private, non-profit university in the State of Hawai’i, U.S. and it is home to over 4,000 students from Hawai‘i, the mainland, and over 70 countries around the world. Fusing this unmatched cultural diversity with personal support and a deliberately intimate learning environment, HPU enables students to get up-close and personal with the subjects they’re most passionate about. And when they do, when they look closer, they are empowered to see further and to do more. It’s how we ensure our graduates enter a competitive global workplace market-ready.

In 2016, the Princeton Review named HPU a “Best in the West” university. That same year, The Chronicle of Higher Education named us the most diverse private nonprofit university in the nation. And in 2018, The New York Times listed us as one of the top 8% of private colleges in the nation for graduates’ income mobility; our students also enjoy the #1 Return on Investment on the Islands.

Undergraduate, graduate and study abroad programs

HPU offers over 40 undergraduate, graduate, Ph.D. and study abroad programs in the arts, sciences, education, business, communications and engineering.

HPU’s student-centered education offers unparalleled opportunity in the middle of the Hawaiian archipelago. Diverse program offerings are taught by experts in the field, and provide unmatched hands-on training and research opportunity. HPU creates prepared professionals ready to take the forefront in a variety of roles at the crossroads of global society. In the College of Business for example, alums mentor and business partners in the surrounding Honolulu business community work with students on projects and assignments. The Oceanic Institute of Hawaii Pacific University (OI) has been a world leader in the advancement of sustainable aquaculture technologies and has contributed to a range of solutions to overcome current and emerging industry challenges.

Campus and city

HPU’s centralized campus in downtown Honolulu and an Oceanic Institute bordering the Pacific Ocean, enable students to enjoy the best of both worlds, a vibrant, international city and a stunningly-beautiful, tropical setting.

The Aloha Tower Marketplace (ATM) serves as an anchor for HPU in the center of Honolulu’s business district. ATM is a mixed-use facility that includes student housing, Welcome Center, Learning Commons, Faculty/Student Lounge, and a variety of restaurants, businesses, classrooms, and meeting rooms. The other two anchors of the downtown campus are the Pioneer Plaza and Waterfront Plaza, offering state of the art computer based classrooms along with classrooms and meeting spaces. Also available are study areas, group study rooms, computer workstations, and wireless Internet. The Tutoring and Testing Center provides free tutoring in all core subjects.
